We love a good brotherly duel and this is exactly what it is; a duel of two brothers. We are calling this because Nokia is soon going to be taken over by Microsoft and both these products are going to come under the same banner. So this is maybe the last straw by even Microsoft to provide for some healthy competition and increase some consumer base for them when they take over Nokia because all the Nokia products consumers will by default come under Microsoft consumer base after the takeover. So let us now go ahead put both the Windows Tablets head to head; this is Microsoft Surface 2 pitched against the Nokia Lumia 2520.

Build and Design:
When it comes to the build of the devices, Nokia never falls back as their use of polycarbonate back covers makes them look amazing yet make them very strong and is capable of handling moderately rough use. The Surface 2 on the other hand comes with a uni-body design like the Lumia 2520 but still the materials it is made of it very sturdy. So build wise both the devices are pretty evenly matched. As for the design, both the devices run Windows and hence design wise both are exactly the same barring few differences in position of the volume rocker and SIM slot, etc.

Display:
Both the devices sport a Full HD display with Nokia having a 10.1” IPS LCD display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 218 ppi. Also it comes with Nokia’s ClearBlack display technology and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection for the screen. The surface 2 on the other hand comes with 10.6” IPS LCD display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 208 ppi. So overall the display of the Lumia is better with greater pixel density but the Surface 2 has a bigger display. So for bigger displays, the Surface 2 it is.

Hardware:
Both the devices are complete powerhouses under the hood, just the sources are different. The Lumia 2520 is powered by the all popular and powerful Snapdragon 800 which is a Quad core clocked at 2.3 GHz and coupled with Adreno 330 GPU. This is the best specs one device could have as of this date. On the other hand the Surface 2 comes loaded with the never Nvidia Tegra 4 Quad core clocked at 1.7 GHz and coupled with a whopping 72 core ULP GeForce GPU. So we can see how both the devices are complete powerhouse. But since the Snapdragon is tried and tested, so in that case the Lumia is a better proposition.

Memory & RAM:
Both the devices come with plenty of memory as the Surface 2 comes in 32 and 64 GB variants while the Lumia 2520 comes in a 32 GB variant only. Both the devices come loaded with a Micro SD card slow with which you can expand the memory of the device by 64 GB. Also both the devices come with 2 GB of RAM. So both are evenly matched in this case, but if you are looking for more memory on board then you can opt for the 64 GB variant of the Surface 2.

Camera:
Cameras on tablets are not such a huge deal but still having a good one on board never hurts anyone. And when it comes to cameras, Nokia is the proven king. So the Lumia 2520 comes with a 6.7 MP camera with a huge aperture like on the Lumia 720 phone which is a great snapper and has amazing low light photography capabilities. Compared to that the 5 MP on the Surface 2 seems bit lack-luster though both the cameras are capable of 1080p Full HD video recording. The front camera though is better on the Surface 2 with a 3.5 MP camera capable of 1080p videos compared to the 2 MP on the Lumia capable of only 720p videos.

Operating System:
In terms of the OS, both the devices run on Microsoft’s Windows RT which is a specially designed OS based on Windows 8 for desktop designed for a touch based interface. The efficiency and productivity of the OS is pretty high since most of the apps for windows are available here. The only advantage here is that Nokia provides some great added features in their Lumia 2520 like a camera app, some added apps to play around with images and videos and also HERE Maps come preloaded on the Lumia.

Features:
Features wise both the devices are pretty much equal since they both are powerhouses and also run the same OS. The only added features on the Lumia 2520 are that first of all the Lumia support SIM cards and are 4G capable which is an added advantage for the Lumia over the Surface 2. Secondly it comes with some amazing preloaded apps from Nokia from editing and playing with images and videos. Also the overall brightness of the Lumia is considerably higher than all the tablets out there making this tablet the best one to read in bright outdoors and in direct sunlight. Plus the best part of that is this device comes pre-loaded with HERE Maps which is Nokia’s own navigation system. So that’s pretty cool.

Battery:
As for the battery, the Lumia 2520 has a 8000 mAh battery that lasts easily for 10 hours on both Wi-Fi and GSM networks. The Surface 2 though comes with a smaller battery and lasts for 8 hours on Wi-Fi only as it does not have a GSM variant and comes with only Wi-Fi. Secondly the Lumia also has an added accessory which is a portable attachable keyboard for the tablet that is another advantage that it provides for upto 5 more hours of extra battery backup for the device. So that is awesome, but only thing that it does not come with the tablet and needs to be bought separately.

So overall our verdict is in favour of the Lumia 2520 since it is complete in all senses and also you wont feel like compromising on anything. Plus the extra added freebie from Nokia is another great reason for opting for the Lumia 2520. So if you are looking for a windows tablet and ever feel confused simply go for the Nokia Lumia 2520 and you will never regret it at all.
