After Googles Daydream, now Sony has put forth its PlayStation VR headset at $399. Sony by setting a low key price tag is expecting to dominate over the other pricey headsets including HTC Vivo, Oculus Rift by Facebook and others. Sony after refocusing its business wing towards gaming and game oriented peripherals is all set in their goals and reports suggest that Sony’s main source of profit is their gaming unit. The price tags of Oculus rift and HTC Vivo being $599 and $799 respectively, Sony is hoping to make the buyers attention shift towards their $399 product. Besides Sony’s hope relies on 40 million users of their gaming consoles

The PlayStation VR headset designed by Sony is all ready to work with PS4 without the need of buying any al equipment. After forecasting the sales of 1.4 million units in 2016, market researcher IHS Technology mentioned that “ “Sony is well-positioned to build an early lead in the high-end VR headset race”.
If we will try to brush up the history, back then Sony was the developer of the famous Walkman portable cassette player and also became the first firm to put forth first compact disc player. And now Sony is hoping to take a giant lead in VR headset developing section in order to rise back to the top. Now the main focus of Sony corp. has shifted towards development in gaming division.

Andrew House, Sony’s gaming division chief, while doing an interview with Reuters clearly mentioned that he is working hard in order to explore the whole world of possibilities for VR headset. He stated that “We are talking about years into the future, but these are interesting conversations to start having now”.
Nomura analysts while keeping the fact that Sony will have to compete in a market which is highly crowded suggested that their VR headset sales will rise up to 40 million by 2020 and keeping all other non gaming accessories in account the sum will be $10 billion.

On the other hand Facebooks Oculus Rift is being heavily funded by Mark Zuckerberg, making an investment of $500 million in its developmental works. Facebook is also thinking about making a standalone VR headset which will be able to run without having to be tethered with consoles or PC’s. Besides Facebook, Intel Corp and Qualcomm Inc, are also working on making standalone headsets. They are expecting the headset developers to use their chipsets and technologies foe building these VR headsets.

What is IP68 certification?
IP stands for “ingress protection” and nowadays see our premium end Smartphones are labeled with IP ratings which are assigned by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as per a devices ability to withstand the ingress of elements such as water, dust and dirt. Any device before provided with a particular rating is subjected to laboratory tests while the device is put on standby mode.

ip68Ip68 certified Phones

6 – is the international rating for an IP68 device for its dust resistance. Samsung Gear S2, iPhone 7 as well as Samsung Galaxy S7 were labelled with 6 rating in this section.
8 – is the international rating for an IP68 device for its resistance against water. iPhone 7 scored 7 rating in this case while as Samsung Galaxy S7, Gear S2 managed to get 8 rating. IP68 rated Smartphone / Smartwatch can be taken underwater for 30 minutes at depths of up to 1.5m while as in case of IP67, only 1 meter depth can be attained for the same time.

What does this mean practically?

In real life, both these ratings will only keep your Smartphone safe from accidental drops. Suppose you dropped your Smartphone in a toilet or bathtub accidentally, it will not be affected. But you need to be clear that your Smartphone cannot withstand underwater photography in the swimming pool. If you want your Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 to not get killed, you better refrain from such activities.

Last year Apple posted a detailed advisory for its Apple Watch and same set of advice will follow up for iPhone 7 too. Apple stated “ Submerging your Apple Watch isn’t recommended. Water resistance isn’t a permanent condition, and your Apple Watch can’t be rechecked or resealed for water resistance. The following may affect the water resistance of your Apple Watch and should be avoided:

  • Dropping your Apple Watch or subjecting it to other impacts.
  • Submerging your Apple Watch in water for long periods of time.
  • Swimming or bathing with your Apple Watch.
  • Exposing your Apple Watch to pressurized water or garden hose, for example showering, water skiing, wake boarding, surfing, jet skiing, and so on.
  • Wearing your Apple Watch in a sauna or steam room.”

Similar advice was posted by Sony back in 2015 after releasing IP68 rated devices or handsets which reads “Remember not to use the device underwater,” the firm said. “The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater, such as taking pictures.”

Now it must be pretty clear to you that IP68 rating does not mean that you can go scuba diving while wearing device of such standard. Extreme water-sport activities can be done when your Smart-phone is encased in an out of the certified protective case which guarantees no water damage, it such conditions you are willing to face.

We will have a brief chat to discuss about the rooting process of your Sony Xperia Z. It is really very simple to carry out the rooting process even if you are naïve to rooting. Let’s begin with the rooting of Sony Xperia Z.

Before you begin:

You need to know the requirement for the rooting process and then shall begin with it. You need to unlock your boot loader of your phone. You will need desktop or laptop which should be installed with Sony PC Companion or compatible USB drivers. Charge your phone 100% as rooting process can resume for long. Backup your messages, call logs, contacts and other important files so that you can restore it back from computer.

Sony Xperia Z

Rooting process:

  1. You need to download on to your computer.
  2. Extract the file in to a folder and you will see the file named “runme.bat” and also ensure that you have enabled USB debugging mode and “Unknown Sources” from Settings >> Security >> Unknown Sources.
  3. Connect your phone with computer and launch “runme.bat” and continue the process to install ‘busybox’ and ‘SuperUser’ and when the script completes the execution, now reboot your device and now you can see that your phone has gained root access.
  4. Now you can also check the root status by the Root Checker app from Google Play store.
  5. So you have done with rooting process and now you can start with Custom Recovery on your phone and for that you need to download CWM Custom Recovery and Fastboot+ADB(20926) and when this process of downloading completes then we can resume with the process of Sony Xperia Z.

CWM installation:

Now you need to download and extract Fast-boot zip file in root drive of your computer and there you will find fast-boot and adb folder so download and extract custom recovery zip file and find boot.img.

Copy this boot.img file in the folder of Fastboot and Adb >> win32 folder and now switch off your device and boot your phone in ‘fastboot mode’ by pressing and holding volume up button and then connect your phone to computer with USB cable.

If the connection gets established then ‘LED lights up’ with blue color and once your phone gets connected then open win32 folder and now Press and hold shift key and then press right click of mouse and then click on Open Command Window.

On this window type ‘fastboot flash boot boot.img’ and your flashing will start and when this process completes you can reboot your device and you will find CWM recovery on your device.
