This is a epic battle of Smartphone’s between two classic rivals Samsung and Nokia who has always tried to dominate over one another with their technologies and quality. After a long year of cold war between the official of Nokia in their own set of protocols related to the company management, they have get back on their feet again. No matter Samsung has travelled too forward in technology as compared to Nokia but still Nokia is carrying on same genes of perfection to their upcoming generation of Smartphone’s. Here today we will see who has got the best stuff embedded deep inside both performance wise as well as the main architecture.

Samsung galaxy S4 Zoom vs Nokia Lumia 1020

1. Built in Design and Display: Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom as well as Lumia 1020 is latest high end Smartphone which were both unveiled in July 2013. This Smartphone is packed with the dimensions of 125.5*63.5*15.4mm. It flaunts a 4.3inch super AMOLED display with resolution of 540*960pixels and moderate pixel density of 256ppi. This good quality display is sheltered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for the best protection. On the other hand, Nokia Lumia 1020 is available in dimensions of 130.4*71.4*10.4mm weighing about 158 grams. This Smartphone houses a 4.5inch AMOLED display with screen resolution of 768*1280pixels and pixel density of 332ppi. Here we can see the impact of Nokia display has totally dominated over this Samsung Smartphone clearly leaving an impact on your mind that Nokia has still got that instinct to be the best. The Lumia 1020 display quality is highly exceptional as compared to Galaxy S4 Zoom.

2. Performance: Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom runs on comes installed with Android v4.2.2 Jelly bean OS which is upgradable to latest version of Android which is v4.4.2 Kit Kat. Lumia 1020 runs on Windows Phone 8 OS which is also upgraded to latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS. Here as a operating system switch between these two Smartphone’s as they run on totally different platforms. Windows lovers can get the windows running Smartphone while as for people addicted to Android, they can have it. However the OS competition is stiff and Android is still better and more stable than windows OS but only in certain cases, it’s just the matter of time that they will be competing on equal standards because windows is also making every application running possible on their OS. So, choosing OS depends upon your taste however professionals believe in Windows. Talking about processor, Samsung Galaxy S4 operates on a Pega dual cortex A9 dual core processor clocked at 1.5GHz speed. Lumia 1020 operates on a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor also clocked a 1.5GHz of speed and perfectly coupled with 2GB RAM. Here the processor battle almost ends up at tie with same number of cores as well as speed. But Samsung S4 Zoom is coupled with 1.5GB RAM and Lumia 1020 with complete 2GB. Here the 0.5GB RAM is extra in case of Lumia 1020 but the overall performance will be best for both devices because negligible amount of effect will be seen because of extra amount of RAM.

3. Camera: Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom sports a 16MP camera with picture resolution of 4608*3456pixels featuring auto focus, 10x optical zoom, optical image stabilisation and Xenon Flash.  A 1.9Mp secondary shooter is also present for video calling features and the rest. Lumia 1020 completely shatters this average camera of Samsung S4 Zoom with its crisp and clear Carl Zeiss optics 41MP camera having picture resolution of 7152*5368pixels featuring optical image stabilisation, auto/ manual focus, Xenon as well as LED Flash, Pure view technology, dual capture, etc. For video chatting feature a 1.2MP shooter is present at the front.  This criterion perfectly judges the best contender among these present before you.

4. Network and Connectivity: Not much diversity is seen present between these two Smartphone’s in this aspect. Both are 4G enabled Smartphone with connectivity features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. However Samsung Galaxy S4 has got better Bluetooth v4.0 as compared to Lumia 1020 possessing v3.0 but it doesn’t make any great effect on their speeds.

5. Storage: Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is available with 8GB internal storage from which only 5GB is accessible to user. Lumia 1020 possesses a huge 32GB internal storage in general which is highly incredible. However Samsung S4 Zoom storage is expandable up to 64GB via SD card but it won’t neglect the fact that this Smartphone is having ordinary amount of storage on its own.  Lumia 1020 doesn’t even need an SD card with such massive amount of storage.

6. Backup: Samsung Galaxy S4 packs a 2330mAh Li-ion battery giving talk time of up to 13 hours. While as Lumia 1020 packs a 200mAh Li-ion battery giving 19h of talk time clearly enlighten that Windows is less power consuming OS than Android. Since ages, Android is facing issues with battery, so Windows is better in this regard.

All the above specifications clearly give the indication the Nokia Lumia 1020 is better in case of camera, display, battery and storage. This is one of the best Windows phone ever and highly advanced as compared to Galaxy S4 Zoom whose features just count to be average as compared to this Nokia beast.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is an awesome device with great specs and literally ruled the smartphone market since it was launched. Samsung unveiled so many new features in the phone that the complete package as a phone minus the hardware specs was still the best ever available in the market and even today there is no device matching or bettering it except maybe the Galaxy Note 3 which was recently launched. Samsung though has released this device in many model numbers which include carrier dependent ones and also a global variant. The problem is that Samsung does not offer an official boot-loader unlock system, hence to do that there is a need to root the device.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Step by step guide to root Samsung galaxy S4

Now since some carriers install additional boot-loader security measures, certain software is needed to do that to get around those measures for rooting the device. So here too we are going to be using a software tool called Odin which allows for easy rooting for Samsung devices via a PC.

1. First of all you need to install Odin on your system. When that is done, run it and in the opening menu you will see a button called “PDA”, just click on it.

2. Now Odin will ask you to select a root file.

3. Then power off your phone and when it is completely shut down, and then press the power and volume up button to enter the download mode.

4. Connect the Galaxy S4 to the PC and then click the Start button on Odin.

5. Odin will keep processing for a moment and check if your phone is capable of automatic root. If it is found, then it will push the file over to the phone. And later when you see the Super-user Android logo, it means you have successfully installed root.

6. Now all you need to do is reboot your phone and then you are done. (It should most probably work)

Note: None of this replaced the recovery or unlocked the boot-loader. The device is still more restricted than other rooted Android phones. A different method that replaces the recovery will give you more control and helps get around some of the roadblocks that stop ODIN from running the process automatically.

Now that you have rooted your device you can do whatever you want with it and enjoy loads of features on Android on your phone. You can even install some custom Android versions like CyanogenMOD and many more. So now you are not at all bounded to anything and can soar free with your Galaxy S4 and enjoy your smartphone to the fullest.

Gaming on budget Android phones has always been some kind of a compromise as the heavy graphic intensive games are not quite supported on the low specifications of the phone. So it can be a bit disappointing that you are unable to enjoy the top-notch gaming experience that you could on a flagship device, but your pocket is not quite supportive of it. So for that reason, “mini” versions of flagship phones are launched to fit the budget pocket for some compromise on the specs as well. So let us see the best 5 games for the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini.

This phone features a 1.7 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 305 GPU and 1.5 GB RAM. This is less compared to the actual specs of the Samsung Galaxy S4, but still not bad for the price point it is available at. So let’s now check out the games for the phone.

2. Fifa 12:

The football marvel from the studio of EA, the Fifa 12 is one heck of a wonderful game. It has the same feel to it as if you are playing it on your PC or a gaming console. The gaming controls are all on the touchscreen and are easily reachable and controllable which means playing this game is a breeze. Add to that the amazing graphics and realistic looks and grounds, you will surely spend hours scoring goals and winning once you get your hands on playing this game.

3. Asphalt 8:

Asphalt 8

A racing marvel that started off low and made a name for itself by making some wonderful games, Asphalt today has moved with time and technology to bring about the most realistic and amazing street racing game. You almost feel like Vin Diesel in Fast and the Furious while playing this game as it has all the aspects of it like the police chasing behind, the street drivers you try to take down and the nitrous oxide boost provided to the cars. Whrr Whrr!!! Let the engines go.

4. Real Racing 3:

Real Racing 3

This is another racing marvel which kind of is a short term success; this game came out of nowhere to surprise us all by its amazing gameplay and graphics that it left all of us in the awe of those amazing cars. The racing is very competitive and fun and the option to upgrade further and expand your fleet of cars to beat all the other drivers is an amazing concept and makes the gameplay very interesting as then you just don’t keep racing but there is a purpose for racing.

5. Nova 3:

Nova 3

This is an amazing Science fiction title brought by Gameloft in its third instalment. This game was a huge hit on PC and the gaming consoles and was later released for Android and iOS. There are plans to even launch this game for Blackberry and Windows Phone as well. What makes this game special is the futuristic setting and the amazing visual effects provided in the game. This game has won many hearts and is sure to win more every passing day. The gameplay and storyline of the game is amazing and the suspense factor of the game which goes on increasing with the moving story makes this game an awesome one. Also the fact that even though being a graphic intensive game, it still works seamlessly on the S4 mini, makes this game that more amazing.

There are many other games that are available for the phone in the Google Play Store, but the games mentioned above have been chosen based on the popularity and nature of the games and most importantly the games mentioned above are all very much graphic intensive which play quite well on the Galaxy S4 mini as well. This is because most of the mid-range devices are not quite capable of handling heavy games, but this phone is very much capable.

Android updates are pretty tedious to get, especially since they are available over the air (OTA) and especially when there are custom overlays on top of the original Android UI. Unlike Windows Phone and iOS, Android updates are hugely dependant on the region and network carriers, etc. there are like n number of various factors and so by the time you actually get an update for your device it either gets outdated or else a newer update is about to be launched. So we thought, why wait for all this and just update your phone manually all by yourself? So in interest of all the Android users to get their updates in time, we are providing the steps for installing the Android 4.3 Jelly-Bean update which is the latest for the Samsung Galaxy S4. Download Galaxy S4 pc suite drivers

Samsung Galaxy S4

Please note that installing certain updates to your phone, flashing ROMs and fiddling with your official softwares could have some intermittent risks. So please make sure that you know what you are doing here. So make sure you follow all the steps properly and it will all be fine. But still just a disclaimer that there are risks involved in this and any damage caused to the device or any firmware or software while you tinkering with it is none of my responsibility. Now with this we shall start.

1. First step always to any software solution is to acquire the software in the first place. So you will need to download the software and you can do that from the link provided here. Download the firmware here: Android 4.3 official firmware Samsung i9505 Galaxy S4.

2. After downloading the file, you will get a Zip file. On unzipping the file, you will get two files in it with the extension “.md5” and a file with the extension .tar

3. After that download software called Odin 3.09, and open and unpack the .zip also.

4. Launch Odin.

5. Then reboot your Galaxy S4 in download mode. You can do this by long pressing the Volume Up, Power and Home button all at the same time.

6. Connect your Galaxy S4 via USB cable to your computer and wait for Odin to recognize it. A blue box should then appear (in the program).

7. Add: 5 to AP

8. Before going ahead and pressing Start, do make sure that the re-partition box is not checked.

9. Click Start and wait a few minutes until the procedure ends. Do not disconnect your S4, be patient. The screen might go blank in this process, nothing to panic there as well, it is perfectly normal.

10. After the process finishes, then your Galaxy S4 restarts and then you know that it’s over!

Please note some important things here. This is the officially released version of the Galaxy S4 4.3 JellyBean in Germany. So it is risk free and will eventually come over in your country as well soon depending on the schedule Samsung has made. To check that, you can go into Settings > More > About Device > Software update > Update. But also remember an important thing that this is the firmware only for the I9505 model and not the I9500. So do not please try this on an I9500 model. So please do check out which model your S4 is else you might end up screwing up the phone.
