The Nokia Lumia 1320 is armed with an astonishing 6 inch screen with 1280×720 resolution, a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory. The 5MP camera is not that impressive compared to the ones on Samsung devices, but this Windows phone is still a phone worth having. One very good reason for that is the 9 hours of video play time, or that the maximum  time for using wifi is 11.5 hours. Maybe not the strongest of phones when it comes to memory, but if you rarely want to experience a depleted battery, this is the phone for you.

Nokia never leaves its devices alone, there is always a big brother or a smaller one in the segment in which it releases a new device and same is the case with the Nokia Lumia 1320. The Lumia 1320 is a smaller brother or a toned down version of the Flagship phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520. Though it boasts of the same big 6” display as the 1520, but the 1320 has been quite much toned down to fit into the category of cheaper phablets which has a pretty good market. Though the specs on the Lumia 1320 are not even half impressive as that on the Lumia 1520, but they are enough for the phone to get the job done seamlessly since Windows Phone OS does not require much horsepower either to function efficiently and smoothly.

Nokia Lumia 1320

Body & Design:

The design ideology of the Nokia Lumia 1320 varies a little from the Lumia 1520. It also comes with a unibody design which seems to be the new standard from Nokia in all its devices. It does have a difference that it comes with round edges instead of the square ones on the Lumia 1520. That means that the phone is much easier to carry around is resistant to scratches if it accidently bangs all over the place, chances of which are pretty high considering the huge size of the device. Also the phone will fit in easily in your pockets so there won’t be any worries of it stretching your pockets and forming holes. The back panel is the same polycarbonate shell, but it has a bit of gloss which actually adds to the beauty of the device.

Display:

The display is what makes this phone stand out in its class. This phone the Nokia Lumia 1320 comes with a 6” IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 245 ppi which is pretty awesome actually considering that Nokia has been following a trend of WVGA resolution for mid-range devices, but this phone seems like a mid-range phablet and it actually is. The HD display on this device is pretty capable of handling the amazing graphics and it can be used with great efficiency for multimedia and gaming.

Hardware:

Nokia has really toned down this device in terms of hardware. The snapdragon 800 totting 1520 has been reduced down to a 1.7 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 CPU coupled with an Adreno 305 GPU. Though it seems like 5 generations old, but it is not, the specs are decent enough and are actually enough to run Windows Phone 8 smoothly and lag free. Though it might not support many heavy games which might be requiring a minimum quad core CPU, but then that should be much of a deal breaker.

OS:

The good thing about this device is that it comes loaded with the latest version of Windows Phone 8 “Black”, the GDR3 or also termed as “Bittersweet Shimmer”. It does come loaded with some new amazing features like the Nokia Camera app, the Drive feature a new Glance screen and many more. And now also with the new GDR3 update, the OS now supports new games, Full HD resolution, Quad core processors, and huge screens as well. Now we have many less things to complain about Windows Phone.

Camera:

The camera on the Lumia 1320 has been toned down to well… all the way. Nokia were we have no idea what mood they were in, but they have provided with only a simple 5 MP camera with a single flash on the Nokia Lumia 1320. We are really disappointed with this one thing. Though the camera does work nicely with Nokia standards and is better than other 5 MP shooters out there in the market but still we were expecting at least an 8 MP PureView on the back. The front though remains a simple VGA which is again a letdown, but guess we cannot complain about anything now.

Memory:

Nokia has provided a decent enough 1 GB of RAM on this device which is enough for gaming and multitasking on this device with ease. So we can take it. At least there won’t be any waiting for the apps to load and stuff. Everything on the device is smooth and easy and the 1 GB of RAM makes sure it is proper. On the mass storage front, the device comes with 8 GB of inbuilt storage for apps and games. It also comes with upto 64 GB expandable storage option which is good enough. So you can save your media files over there.

Battery:

The best thing the Lumia 1320 is that Nokia has not toned the battery down at least. It boasts the same 3400 mAh battery from the Nokia Lumia 1520. So you can be sure that you won’t have to run for the charger anytime soon after a full charge. Nokia claims that the phone provides 21 hours of talk time on 3G so you can easily use the phone for a day with heavy usage without worrying about charging it. We have not yet done a battery endurance test of the device since we received it just a couple of days ago, so stay tuned for that, it is coming soon.

Features:

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is just a toned down version of the Nokia Lumia 1520 in terms of the hardware, but the functioning of the phone is exactly the same with the same inside software, OS and all the works. The new camera app, the new glance screen, storyteller feature and many more add a nice quirk to the OS making it match more towards Android and iOS and it is just a matter of time until the popular apps and titles arrive for Windows Phone since it is now developed quite so much.

So overall the Nokia Lumia 1320 is a good phone, but don’t expect it to be like the Lumia 1520 but something near the Lumia 925 in terms of functioning. But if you are a fan of big screen Windows Phone and also on a budget, then the Nokia Lumia 1320 might just be your answer. So overall the Nokia Lumia 1320 is a very good phone in terms of performance even with the low specs and with the big battery in it, it is a very good choice to go for if of course you have jeans with pockets big enough to fit the phone as well.

In the recent Nokia World Event on October 22, 2013, Nokia unveiled many new devices including a number a Lumias; 3 to be exact. Now what makes these Lumia devices so special is because they are not any device Nokia launched, but they are the state of the art Phablets and tablets from Nokia. Considering the present market competition, Nokia really seem to have their homework done really well when they made and unveiled the new line-up of Lumia devices.

The three Lumias unveiled by Nokia are the Nokia Lumia 1520 flagship model aka Bandit. Its smaller brother, the Nokia Lumia 1320 aka Batman and along with that a full-fledged tablet the Nokia Lumia 2520. What makes these devices so special is that, these were two areas in the market where Nokia had not ventured at all till now and suddenly Nokia entered providing such stiff competition to its competitors, that we are really enjoying to see the dogfight and are eager as to which one will come out on top. So now let us check out the 3 devices individually. We will start first with the flagship Nokia Lumia 1520.

Nokia Lumia 1320:

Nokia Lumia 1320

This is pegged as the small brother of the Lumia 1520. Interesting how Nokia nicknames its devices. The bigger 1520 is the Bandit and now the budget version of it is Batman. I am really impressed. But the name is not all it has. The Lumia 1320 sure does not have the same internal specs as that of the 1520, but being a budget model, that is understandable. What is more interesting is the specs that Nokia has provided in the phone that makes it so much awesome. For starters it has the same 6” screen, just with 720p display. It has the same 3400 mAh huge battery. It has a GB of RAM, supports LTE and is compatible to the new version of Windows Phone 8. Full specs are given below.

  • Resolution: 1280×720
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Dual Core @ 1.7 GHz
  • GPU: Adreno 305

Nokia Lumia 1520:

Nokia Lumia 1520

This is the currently flagship Lumia device introduce in the market after the Nokia Lumia 1020. The design inspiration though still remains the same as the Lumia 1020, just now stretched to accommodate the big size. But Nokia did not make this Phablet just for the size but also included sizable features and tweaks in it as well. Like a 6” Full HD display which is a first for Lumia. Also the inclusion of top of the line specs which were only visible in Android devices till date which are the Snapdragon 800 Quad core processor and 2 GB of RAM. It is even high on the memory front with 32 GB of internal as well as expansion slot upto 64 GB. It is not just that, but also the new Windows Phone 8 Black (also known as GDR3) update which has brought new functionalities, a new camera app, greater support and OS tweaks as well like the new multitasking app closing option, the drive mode, voice support, etc. And how can we ever forget the camera which is a 20.7 MP PureView camera with OIS and lossless zoom feature. Nokia Lumia 2520:

Nokia Lumia 2520

Nokia’s first ever tablet in the market, the Nokia Lumia 2520 is a sheer surprise. We all know how great Nokia’s products are, but actually coming out with a product like this for the first time ever does make our doubts much-more stronger of Microsoft’s help and involvement in making the product. No doubt that the device does run on Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 RT, but why should we worry so much about that when we are getting an amazing product. The Lumia 2520 features a Full HD 10.1” massive screen with an 8000 mAh battery. Add to that the Snapdragon 800 processor, Windows 8.1 RT and 2 GB RAM, this tablet is all set to even give the latest iPad Air a run for its money. Full specs are given below.

Specifications

  • Display: 10.1” IPS LCD ClearBlack
  • Resolution: 1920×1080
  • Processor: Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 Quad Core @ 2.2 GHz
  • GPU: Adreno 330
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Storage: 32 GB, expandable 32 GB
  • Battery: 8000 mAh
  • Camera: 6.7 MP rear, 2 MP front
  • OS: Windows 8.1 RT

Now it is to be seen when Nokia is in the mood to launch these devices in India. Diwali is coming soon which is a huge holiday and shopping season here in India, and hopefully the India division of the company is wary of this. As for the cost, Nokia have priced the devices quite fair, but then everything for us is always more. The Lumia 1520 is priced at around $720 which comes down to roughly 43,000 INR. The Lumia 1320 is priced at around $330 which comes down to about 25,000 INR. The Lumia 2520 on the other hand is priced the same as the iPad Air at $499 which comes down to about 30,000 INR. So grab your check books and credit cards and gift vouchers if any coz Nokia is coming to town! 😉
