Nokia does know how to make some good budget phones for the market. They started it off with their budget windows phone the Nokia Lumia 520, and then went on to add on to their Asha series of phones which they have planned to target all those countries like India where budget phones are a lot in demand. It cannot actually be said as to if the phones can really match to the premium standards, but then you even cannot compare them in any ways to the premium phones as well.

In the recently concluded Nokia World Event in Abu Dhabi, Nokia unveiled a new collection of Asha series feature phones which are the Nokia Asha 500, 502 and 503 to join in to the previously released Nokia Asha 501. All these phones now have been revamped into full touchscreen phones by using a new UI over the S40 operating system. Now only time will tell how these phones will survive and make do in the heavily Android dominated market.

Nokia Asha 500:

Nokia Asha 500 Dual Sim

This is the entry level Asha introduced by Nokia. Now that Nokia has officially claimed to stop support for Symbian OS, they are concentrating heavily on the Asha OS. It is interesting that Nokia have actually used many graphical tweaks from the Windows Phone OS. Like the swipe feature, the keyboard, etc. to mention a few. Nokia have provided Dual SIM version of this phone along with a single SIM variant. It has a very small screen at 2.8” with a simple 240p resolution. The pixel density is pretty fine, but it will be interesting to see how good the touch sensitivity is as we have has these problems on the budget Asha series smartphones before. Also this phone is a simple feature phone with not much in it actually, so the main uses for this will always be for calling and texting as the screen and the phone overall it not that great for gaming. Though the Wi-Fi support and availability of Whatsapp in-built on the phone is a bit reassuring. Full specifications are given below.

Specifications:

  • Display: 2.8” TFT
  • Resolution: 320×240
  • Processor: 1 GHz ARM
  • RAM: 64 MB
  • Storage: 100 MB, expandable 32 GB
  • Battery: 1010 mAh
  • Camera: 2 MP.
  • OS: Asha S40 Swipe UI, Dual SIM

Nokia Asha 502:

Nokia Asha 502 Dual SIM

The Nokia Asha 502 is a midrange Asha series phone which is one above the Asha 501. The internal specification of the phone is exactly the same with the only difference of a bigger 3” screen. The Asha 502 has Dual SIM capability and does not come in a single SIM variant unlike the Asha 500 and 503. Also the camera on this phone is one better at 5 MP with an LED flash but this phone supports a maximum of 2.5G. so browsing internet using cellular EGPRS should not be much troublesome experience. The camera on the phone is also pretty decent for a phone available on the sub $99 price range. So all in all it is a good device, but again the performance of the phone should not be expected as great as the Androids but again these phones are quite capable; only if we get some great apps for these phones soon. Full specifications down below.

Specifications:

  • Display: 3” TFT
  • Resolution: 320×240
  • Processor: 1 GHz ARM
  • RAM: 64 MB
  • Storage: 100 MB, expandable 32 GB
  • Battery: 1010 mAh
  • Camera: 5 MP, LED flash
  • OS: Asha S40 Swipe UI, Dual SIM

Nokia Asha 503:

Nokia Asha 503 Dual Sim

This is the flagship Asha if you can say so. The Nokia Asha 503 has the best features than all other Asha phones. For starters it also has a 3” display and a 5 MP camera like the 502. But an added advantage of this phone is that it has the curved Corning Gorilla Glass protection to the screen which provides an extra advantage to the phone. Secondly this phone supports 3G which is another great feature of this phone. It also comes in single SIM as well as Dual SIM variants which is another plus. What is disappointing is that Nokia have kept the same RAM and processor for this phone, so the overall performance of the phone is going to be the same as the other Asha phones. One good thing is that Nokia has put in a bigger 1200 mAh battery which is a good thing considering the phone has 3G option which is a bit more battery draining. Check out the full specifications below.

Specifications:

  • Display: 3” TFT
  • Resolution: 320×240
  • Processor: 1 GHz ARM
  • RAM: 64 MB
  • Storage: 100 MB, expandable 32 GB
  • Battery: 1200 mAh
  • Camera: 5 MP, LED flash
  • OS: Asha S40 Swipe UI, HSDPA+ (3.5G) support, Dual SIM

Nokia has announced that they are going to launch the Asha series phones in India first and then elsewhere. So we can very well expect these phones to arrive in the market for the great Diwali sale. So if you happen to be looking for a budget device to carry around, then this might just be the phone for you. The best part is that all the three phones cost pretty less, so it won’t be much draining on your pocket as well. The phones are priced pretty well as well with the Asha 500 at INR 4,200, Asha 502 for INR 5,000 and the Asha 503 for INR 6,100. So seems pretty good a deal isn’t it?
