Nokia never leaves its devices alone, there is always a big brother or a smaller one in the segment in which it releases a new device and same is the case with the Nokia Lumia 1320. The Lumia 1320 is a smaller brother or a toned down version of the Flagship phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520. Though it boasts of the same big 6” display as the 1520, but the 1320 has been quite much toned down to fit into the category of cheaper phablets which has a pretty good market. Though the specs on the Lumia 1320 are not even half impressive as that on the Lumia 1520, but they are enough for the phone to get the job done seamlessly since Windows Phone OS does not require much horsepower either to function efficiently and smoothly.

Body & Design:

The design ideology of the Nokia Lumia 1320 varies a little from the Lumia 1520. It also comes with a unibody design which seems to be the new standard from Nokia in all its devices. It does have a difference that it comes with round edges instead of the square ones on the Lumia 1520. That means that the phone is much easier to carry around is resistant to scratches if it accidently bangs all over the place, chances of which are pretty high considering the huge size of the device. Also the phone will fit in easily in your pockets so there won’t be any worries of it stretching your pockets and forming holes. The back panel is the same polycarbonate shell, but it has a bit of gloss which actually adds to the beauty of the device.

The display is what makes this phone stand out in its class. This phone the Nokia Lumia 1320 comes with a 6” IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 245 ppi which is pretty awesome actually considering that Nokia has been following a trend of WVGA resolution for mid-range devices, but this phone seems like a mid-range phablet and it actually is. The HD display on this device is pretty capable of handling the amazing graphics and it can be used with great efficiency for multimedia and gaming.

Nokia has really toned down this device in terms of hardware. The snapdragon 800 totting 1520 has been reduced down to a 1.7 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon S4 CPU coupled with an Adreno 305 GPU. Though it seems like 5 generations old, but it is not, the specs are decent enough and are actually enough to run Windows Phone 8 smoothly and lag free. Though it might not support many heavy games which might be requiring a minimum quad core CPU, but then that should be much of a deal breaker.

The good thing about this device is that it comes loaded with the latest version of Windows Phone 8 “Black”, the GDR3 or also termed as “Bittersweet Shimmer”. It does come loaded with some new amazing features like the Nokia Camera app, the Drive feature a new Glance screen and many more. And now also with the new GDR3 update, the OS now supports new games, Full HD resolution, Quad core processors, and huge screens as well. Now we have many less things to complain about Windows Phone.

The camera on the Lumia 1320 has been toned down to well… all the way. Nokia were we have no idea what mood they were in, but they have provided with only a simple 5 MP camera with a single flash on the Nokia Lumia 1320. We are really disappointed with this one thing. Though the camera does work nicely with Nokia standards and is better than other 5 MP shooters out there in the market but still we were expecting at least an 8 MP PureView on the back. The front though remains a simple VGA which is again a letdown, but guess we cannot complain about anything now.

Nokia has provided a decent enough 1 GB of RAM on this device which is enough for gaming and multitasking on this device with ease. So we can take it. At least there won’t be any waiting for the apps to load and stuff. Everything on the device is smooth and easy and the 1 GB of RAM makes sure it is proper. On the mass storage front, the device comes with 8 GB of inbuilt storage for apps and games. It also comes with upto 64 GB expandable storage option which is good enough. So you can save your media files over there.

The best thing the Lumia 1320 is that Nokia has not toned the battery down at least. It boasts the same 3400 mAh battery from the Nokia Lumia 1520. So you can be sure that you won’t have to run for the charger anytime soon after a full charge. Nokia claims that the phone provides 21 hours of talk time on 3G so you can easily use the phone for a day with heavy usage without worrying about charging it. We have not yet done a battery endurance test of the device since we received it just a couple of days ago, so stay tuned for that, it is coming soon.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is just a toned down version of the Nokia Lumia 1520 in terms of the hardware, but the functioning of the phone is exactly the same with the same inside software, OS and all the works. The new camera app, the new glance screen, storyteller feature and many more add a nice quirk to the OS making it match more towards Android and iOS and it is just a matter of time until the popular apps and titles arrive for Windows Phone since it is now developed quite so much.

So overall the Nokia Lumia 1320 is a good phone, but don’t expect it to be like the Lumia 1520 but something near the Lumia 925 in terms of functioning. But if you are a fan of big screen Windows Phone and also on a budget, then the Nokia Lumia 1320 might just be your answer. So overall the Nokia Lumia 1320 is a very good phone in terms of performance even with the low specs and with the big battery in it, it is a very good choice to go for if of course you have jeans with pockets big enough to fit the phone as well.
