Lava recently launched another product in its IRIS line of Android Smartphones- the IRIS 504Q.Lava; unlike its competitor Micromax, hasn’t been able to grab much of a limelight when it comes to affordable 5 inches in the market. Let’s take a look on what IRIS 504Q offers in terms of specification and whether it can leave behind the A116 in terms of offering.

On the display front, Lava has introduced OGS technology on the display of the 504Q. OGS stands for one glass solution which combines the protective glass plus the air and a touch layer with the LCD layer of the phone thereby reducing the thickness of the phone as well as improving the display quality at the same time. It offers a similar 720p resolution as A116 HD, nothing different.

Lava Iris 540Q

Lava IRIS 504Q has a stock Android 4.2 installed in it which is a higher version when compared to Micromax A116 HD, which runs on Android 4.1. There are a number of UI changes made to Android 4.2. Though, Micromax has promised to release the upgrade as soon as it releases. One different UI feature that Lava IRIS offers is its gesture control. Gesture control is nothing but AIR UI seen in Samsung GS4, wherein you can just swipe and take photos without touching the screen. The feature looks gimmicky and less responsive to the hand gestures.

Except this, the Lava IRIS 504Q comes with a 1.2 GHz quad core ARM Cortex A7 CPU along with PowerVR SGX544 for GPU needs. 1GB RAM, 4 GB internal memory which is expandable up to 32GB, 3G for faster internet on the move. Wi-Fi b/g/n with hotspot, USB on the go for portable media transferring from USB drives (No HDD transfer). An 8 megapixel shooter on the rear and 2mp in the front, 1280×720 IPS display. Video shooting at 1080p@30fps,3.5mm universal audio jack, MMS/E-mail. It is powered by a 2000 mAH battery as same as the A116 HD.

Overall, the IRIS 504Q is a pretty decent phone and an affordable one too as it is available in the Indian market for Rs. 13.5k, which is the same price band as Micromax A116 Canvas HD making it worthy competitor given a couple of extra features. The IRIS 504Q is definitely a good option to go for in the likes of Micromax A116 and Karbonn Titanium S5.
