Asus recently surprised the crowd at CES 2015 by unveiling their monstrous configuration Smartphone, ZenFone 2 which will be available to users in the 2nd Quarter of 2015. Likewise Samsung recently showed off their first ever metal framed Samsung Galaxy Alpha and was released in August 2014. Both these Smartphone’s are LTE compatible showing same connectivity modes. These Smartphone’s will be facing a head on battle here in all aspects even though their price point varies greatly because Asus has shown some great stuff since past few years at an affordable price. So, let’s go for this evaluation and choose the better one.

Asus ZenFone 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Asus ZenFone 2 vs. Samsung Galaxy Alpha

1. Build Quality and Display: Asus ZenFone 2 although being a low priced Smartphone features brushed Aluminium back panel looks quite promising, housing a 5.5inches IPS display with pixel resolution of 1080*1920pixels and density of 403ppi and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Samsung Galaxy Alpha is the first ever Smartphone from Samsung with metal frame flaunting a 4.7inch super AMOLED display with resolution of 720*1280pixels and pixel density of 312ppi sheltered Corning Gorilla Glass 4 that’s the latest one rarely seen yet. Looking at the figures as well as design, Galaxy Alpha is a compact sized Smartphone while as Zenfone 2 being Phablet styled. Still ZenFone 2 manages to produce better resolution as compared to Galaxy Alpha but it could still make its way into your pockets if looking for compactness instead of size and quality.

2. Performance: Being shipped with Android v5.0 Lollipop OS, ZenFone 2 operates on Quad core Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.3GHz in case of higher variant coupled with 4GB RAM while as the lower variant speed rests on 1.8GHz coupled by 2GB RAM. Power VR GPU is present in both cases for extra smooth visual experience. Samsung Galaxy Alpha is stocked with Android v4.4.4 Kit Kat upgradable to v5.0 Lollipop operating on Quad core Exynos processor clocked at 1.8GHz coupled with 2GB RAM and Mali-T628 GPU. Observations reveal that although the OS’s will be same at the end of the day but the processing speed as well as RAM is better in case of ZenFone 2 higher variant which is the main competition target. This will allow ZenFone 2 to perform much fast and give a detailed performance and compatibility.

3. Camera: Asus ZenFone 2 is equipped with a 13Mp rare camera alongside with dual LED Flash unlike Galaxy Alpha housing a 12MP rare camera and single LED flash. ZenFone 2 is also leading in front shooting with 5.0MP front shooter while as in case of Galaxy Alpha, it is 2.1MP. This section also gives an easy lead to Asus ZenFone 2 with a bit better rare and much improved front shooter.

4. Storage: The storage capacity of Asus ZenFone 2 varies according to its different variants flaunting 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variant and SD card compatibility up to 64 GB. Samsung Galaxy Alpha comes with 32GB internal storage with no SD card compatibility. Although 32GB is enough for a Smartphone thus pretty cool to have but Asus has got different variants for your along with SD card compatibility thus showing a lead in this sector also.

5. Battery Backup: Asus ZenFone 2 is packed with a non removable 3000mAh battery while in case of Galaxy Alpha it has got 1860mAh battery providing 11h on 3G while as Asus ZenFone 2 is expected to produce an awesome battery backup. However the accurate battery backup of ZenFone 2 is to be confirmed yet.
Taking a look at all the figures above, Asus ZenFone 2 is clearly taking a lead in display quality, performance and storage as compared to Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Besides the fact that this Smartphone costs few more bundles of cash as compared to Asus ZenFone 2. Our choice is clearly Asus ZenFone 2 however you can go for Galaxy Alpha for show off and compactness.

Smartphones market is flooding with many smartphones of different types from different manufactures each and every manufacturer are competing and trying to develop better and cheaper smartphones with new latest features providing you with high tech graphics. Recently two massive impressive smartphone from China have hit the market and created a lot of buzz: the OnePlus One and the Oppo Find 7 . Both these phones by Oneplus and Oppo have outstanding parallelism in many ways. IT is worth knowing that OnePlus company actually came up from the Oppo organisation itself , meaning that some personnel left the Oppo company and started their own to new company. Both of this smartphones are amazing and I am now going to discuss both of these smartphones.

OnePlus One Vs Oppo Find 7

Both OnePlus One and the Find 7 are super similar. The oneplus is made of plastic and users can switch the back panels for many different types which ever they like from the various options provided one of which is made of carbon. The oppo Find 7 is also made of plastic itself, but also a premium model that is made of carbon is available. IF you look at both of these smartphones from front side you would see is that both of them have super identical design and you just can’t tell the difference.. Both of these smartphones uses fix capacitive buttons and you can see a front logo. IF you consider weight and dimensions both of them are identical in this field too with Oneplus has weight of 162 g while Find 7 has 171 g.

Hardware/ Software:

Unlike design there are lot of difference in hardware specifications between both smartphones.

1. Oneplus One have Android 4.4, Cyanogen Mod 11S as its operating system. While on the other hand Find 7 has Android 4.3, Colour 2.0 as its operating system.

2. The display of Oneplus is 5.5-inch, IPS, 1,920 x 1,080 pixel, 401 ppi. While display of Find 7 is 5.5-inch, 2,560 x 1,440 Pixel, 534 ppi.

3. Oneplus has 2.5 GHz, Quad-Core, Snapdragon 801 processor with 3 GB RAM and internal storage of 16/64 GB. While Find 7 has 2.5 GHz, Quad-Core, Snapdragon 801 with 3 GB RAM with 32 GB internal storage and even supports expandable memory up to 128 GB.

4. One plus has 3,100 mAh non-removable battery. While Find 7 has 3,000 mAh removable battery.

5. Both of them have 13 mega-pixel back camera and 5 mega-pixel front camera.

6. The dimensions for Oneplus are 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm, while dimensions of Find 7 are 152.6 x 75 x 9.2 mm.

Both of these smartphones are pretty identical and yes it is confusing which is better. The only major classification can be done is by considering the factor of cost. Oneplus is way cheaper than Find 7 with almost providing with same similar features like Oneplus. Both of these smartphones are amazing and have their added advantages. ENJOY!

History repeats itself and so the world is moving from small phones to bigger device now. Mobile size was quite big when it was launched in 90’s and then the size went on decreasing and reached to its extreme and now again from 2 inch of display world has migrated to 10 inch tablet PC.

Micromax and Samsung have announced its latest tablet device named Micromax Canvas Tab P650E and Samsung Tab 3 lite. Both the companies are moving fast in competition and have covered market in all segment, however Micromax is not considered as status phone but still provides very good features in their devices. Samsung is common name taken by people all over globe because Samsung is now penetrated deep in all the segment of mobile phones.

Micromax Canvas Tab P650E vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite

Micromax Canvas Tab has 7 inch of display and is the first phone to have CDMA support in tablet segment. Big display will help you to do official presentation effectively. Samsung Tab 3 lite has 7-inch display with resolution of 600×1024 pixels and has good LCD display output.

3000 mAh battery of Micromax Canvas Tab is sufficient to handle its hardware configuration and will last for more than 10 hours. Samsung will make use of 3600 mAh battery to operate its resources like hardware and will serve you with backup of more than 12 hours.

Samsung and Micromax are providing very good configuration, you can see that configuration of Micromax is little fizzy as tablet is provided with Quad-core processor but RAM is just 512mb. RAM of the tablet should have been at least 1GB to handle Quad-core processor. Display is weak; it should have been brighter and more vibrant. Samsung has good configuration as the name suggest it is a Lite version so configuration is well balanced in this tablet. Display resolution is low it should have been more pixel dense.

Nokia unveiled their new entry level device, the Nokia Lumia 525 which is an upgrade (this is what they are calling it) to the current Nokia Lumia 520. It is really interesting and yet confusing to see that Nokia have given us an upgrade to the Lumia 520 since it is the main driving force for the Windows Phone and Nokia’s market share. According to recent surveys, the Lumia 520 has 25% of the Windows Phone market share and it will be interesting to see how the Nokia Lumia 525 manages to fare among it. Lets have  Lumia 525 vs Lumia 520 comparision to check out how, what Nokia has upgraded the phone.

Nokia Lumia 525 vs Nokia Lumia 520 comparision, specifications

Nokia Lumia 520

We are really astonished and rather have the same reaction which we gave Apple when they did not make any changes to the design and body of the iPhone when then unveiled the iPhone 5. Here Nokia has not made any changes to the Nokia 525 and it looks exactly like the 520 and if you looked both of them side by side, we bet you a 100 bucks an outside person will not be able to make out any difference among the two. It has the same polycarbonate shell with the same colours and the same screen. Now that’s disappointingly “Apple” from Nokia. 😛

The Lumia 525 actually in the right case is nothing different than the Lumia 520 except for the OS version and more RAM. It still has the same 4” IPS LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels at 233 ppi. We were expecting at least a qHD display here, but guess that is fine for an entry level device. It also has the same Snapdragon S4 Dual Core at 1 GHz and Adreno 305 GPU. It still has the same 5 MP Camera that records 720p HD videos. We were expecting at least a camera capable of 1080p Full HD and a flash this time around for the camera. Also there is again the absence of a front camera on this device. Not only that, but the battery is also the same 1430 mAh battery. So consider this as a Nokia Lumia 520 only.

Now here is the big stuff, what makes this device newer and better than the 520. For starters there were reports that the phone used to lag a lot sometimes, so Nokia has fixed that issue by adding 1 GB of RAM in the device this time around. So now you won’t have to worry about any-more lags and also much better multitasking on the device. Now comes the biggest part of all. This device comes out of the box with Windows Phone 8 “Black” also known as the GDR3 update. Now that is awesome. It comes with all the cool tweaks and stuff on the phone like the new camera app, the great multitasking interface, the ability to lock the screen rotation as well as a new glance screen. We will check all that out next.

New Stuff:
The new GDR3 update on the Nokia Lumia 525 which brings it a whole new stuff to the phone. For starters the phone now has the new Nokia Camera App that has bundled all the camera apps of the past and all the lenses as well into one single app from where you can access all the settings of the camera as well as many customization options as well. Secondly is the Drive Mode in which you can switch off calls and texts when driving and connect your phone to the Bluetooth of the car and be hands free. Another great thing about this is the Screen Rotation lock where you can lock the rotation of the screen in either portrait or landscape mode, whichever you prefer. Also there is the multitasking menu where you can simple go to it and press the “X” on the open tabs to close apps simply. So no more hassles about pressing the back button again and again for that.

We would not say that the Lumia 525 is a disappointment considering that it is well made for an entry level Lumia phone, but still we were expecting some nips and should have been upgraded. For starters a new design would have had been nice even if the screen size remained the same. The current design is awesome but a new refreshing look would have had made it easier to spot it and distinguish it from the Nokia Lumia 520. Camera could have had been better and if not then at least a VGA front camera and a flash for the back camera would have also done it. Finally the hardware specs; the RAM increase is fine, but the 1.2 GHz processor on the Lumia 625 and a bigger battery would have had sweetened the deal even better.

So in conclusion we find the Nokia Lumia 525 not much different than the Nokia Lumia 520 but in comparison there are a few differences between the two. As for the verdict, if the price range of the Lumia 525 stays nearby the Lumia 520, then the GDR3 and the 1 GB RAM is enough impetus to prefer for the Lumia 525. Also the new version of the OS even manages the battery better, so the same battery will now last about an hour more than the Lumia 520. Just a small specs recall below.

Nokia Lumia 520 specifications:

  • Display: 4” IPS LCD Capacitive
  • Resolution: 480 x 800 @ 233 ppi

This is the battle of the powerhouses, the Nokia Lumia 1520 pitched against the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Both these phones are the flagship Phablets of their respective manufacturers and both are sporting the best specs in the market. The Note 3 from Samsung is actually the 3rd generation Phablet which has undergone massive development over the years to achieve the perfection. On the other hand the Nokia Lumia 1520 is the first ever Phablet introduced by Nokia in the market. So considering that Nokia have made a Phablet for the first time, it will be interesting to see how it fares pitched against a veteran in the field.

Samsung galaxy note 3 vs Nokia Lumia 1520

Design and Looks:

This is some amazing news for Samsung lovers if they were nauseated by the use of cheap plastic covers on all the Galaxy series of devices. For the first time Samsung put in fake leather back cover with a faux stitching on its border giving it a royal and glam feel. It is not also available some great new colours one of them being pink. It uses the design concept of the Galaxy S4 where the bezel on the side of the screen is pretty less, thus the screen occupying most of the area. But this could also backfire since the screen is now under a huge risk of breaking if for some reason the device happens to fall. On the other hand the Lumia 1520 uses the same polycarbonate body which is quite touch and robust, yet looks chic and is colourful. The design is similar to the 1020, but stretched to occupy the big display of the phone and the internal hardware. The 1520 is available in various colours which Nokia uses that makes the phone the most attractive ones ever.

This is where Nokia completely kills the competition. It has a 6” IPS LCD Full HD display with the resolution of 1920×1080 at 367 ppi. Not only this, but it also uses the ClearBlack technology of Nokia which gives some amazing deep blacks and not the light ones. Also the brightness of the display is optimised that you can very easily see the screen even in bright sunlight under the direct seen with an anti-glare screen and reflectants of only 6% total. Now that is cool. Note 3 on the other hand has a 5.7” Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1920×1080 Full HD at 386 ppi. This is a bigger screen then the previous Note 2, but smaller than the Lumia 1520. Also being an AMOLED display, it has got amazing display qualities, but is a complete battery guzzler, so do make a ‘Note’ of that. One advantage it has is the stylus support that it provides which increases the functionality.

Now talking about performance, both the phones sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad Core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz which is the best and the fastest processor out there. This is coupled with Adreno 330 GPU to handle the graphics and we can easily get it from this how big powerhouses both these devices are. The difference comes where the Note 3 is powered by an Exynos chip with an Octa Core processor in selected markets. So if we compare this with the Lumia, then maybe the Note 3 will inch ahead of the 1520. But again the Octa Core processor is actually a couple of quad core processors and uses the little-big architecture, meaning that only 1 quad core functions at a time. So considering that, the Lumia will surpass the Note 3 in terms of performance.

Operating System:

Now this is where the battle gets interesting. The Note 3 runs on Android 4.3 JellyBean which is as we all know a very heavy OS. Add to that Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI and almost half of the phone’s processing is used in functioning this itself. though Android does have advantages as having many Google services built in and also its App store is the largest in the world, but still after a certain period of time and loading up many apps and filling up memory always results on slowing down of the device. The lags are almost negligible, but still you will start noticing them after a certain period. On the other hand, the Lumia 1520 works on the buttery smooth Windows Phone 8 “Black” OS which is needless to say the smoothest OS in terms of usage. The phones with the most basic specs can handle this OS with amazing ease like the Lumia 520, and since Microsoft does not allow manufacturers to tinkle with the UI, hence you always get the same experience from the cheapest to the most expensive device. Add to that the powerhouse 1520 and your smartphone experience will be unhindered. The Windows App store though is still not that developed, but popular titles are coming here too slowly and it will only be a matter of time until the Windows App store will be as developed as Google Play.

Storage capacity and Main memory:

Both the devices come with a large quantity of inbuilt storage. The Note 3 comes in 16/32/64 GB variants while the Lumia 1520 comes in only a 32 GB variant. Both the devices contain expandable memory card slots upto 64 GB. The Note 3 contains 3 GB RAM while the Lumia 1520 contains 2 GB RAM.

When it comes to cameras, no one can beat the Nokias. As a matter of fact, the recent cameras on the flagship Lumias have even put some DSLR professional cameras to shame. Samsung is also not that far behind, but it is still behind. The Note 3 has a 13 MP camera with LED flash. It can capture some amazing photographs and also contains HDR for amazing low-light images. The Lumia 1520 on the other hand has a 20 MP PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Optical Image Stabilization. The camera can perform insanely awesome in all kinds of conditions especially in low light. Both the cameras are capable of capturing 1080p Full HD videos, but here is the catch. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can capture 1080p at 60 fps while the 1520 can capture at 30 fps. Also the Note 3 is capable of capturing 2160p Ultra HD videos at 30 fps. Wish the Lumia could do this. So in terms of videography, I guess Samsung does it if not the still images.

Both the phones are pretty feature packed the features are actually dependant. Starting with the Note 3, it has got stylus support which gives the device added functionality. The phone has the same features as the Galaxy S4 like Air view, Smart Scroll, etc. but other than that, the device also has a feature of Multi-Window in which you can divide the screen into 2 and run multiple apps at the same time. Also you can run an app in an app. Like say you are watching a movie, and you have to do some calculations, then you need not close the app, just draw a box on the screen and you will get options which apps can be opened and then you can select the calculator and done. Though for all these functionalities you do need a stylus. The Lumia 1520 on the other hand comes with a new GDR3 update to Windows Phone 8. In this there are some added features like a new Drive option where you can block calls and messages so as to not be disturbed. Also now it has support for an extra column of live tiles on the screen which means more tiles are available now. Nokia have scrapped all the previous camera apps and have combined them all in a new camera app called Nokia Camera. In this app you can access everything related to camera and videos as well as the various lenses. You can even change the settings manually as well as there are many pre-set options.

Both the phones need lots of power to run since they have the firepower and the huge screen to support. Hence, the Note 3 has a 3200 mAh battery that lasts for approximately 21 hours on 3G networks which is amazing. The Lumia 1520 on the other hand has a 3400 mAh battery which lasts upto 25 hours on 3G networks. Also with the AMOLED display on the Note 3 which is a big battery guzzler, the actual usage time of the Note 3 will be much lesser than that compared to the Lumia 1520 with an IPS LCD display; hence overall the Lumia 1520 has a better battery than the Note 3.

So, we pitched the Nokia Lumia 1520 against the best Phablet in the market (as many have termed it) the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the results have been pretty surprising. Apart from the stylus support and the Android OS running on the Note 3, the Lumia 1520 literally surpasses the Note 3 in all other aspects. It is truly an amazing device and if you are looking for a device which is amazing in everything and are fine with some apps limitations, then the Nokia Lumia 1520 is the one for you.

It is that time again when the battle of the Indian manufactured smartphones is back. This time it is the battle of the latest flagships from our very own Micromax, Karbonn and Lava owned Xolo. The phones battling it out for them are the Micromax A240 Canvas Doodle (will be mentioned henceforth as Doodle), Karbonn Titanium S9 (Karbonn S9) and the Xolo Play T1000 (Xolo Play). These latest offerings are the newest and best phones in their respective stables, so flagships as you may also like to call them by. We are going to pitch them all against one another to find out which phone is the most superior among the three.

Build and Design:
Build wise all three phones are equally sturdily built. Though you cannot actually compare them with Nokia, HTC, Samsung, etc. but for the price point that they are available at, they are excellently built phones. All the phones have the same buttons that is the volume rocker, power/lock button and the three capacitive buttons on the front for home, back and menu. The S9 only has a physical home button at the centre. The bodies of the phones are all made of plastic and have the One Glass Solution glass screen. Point to be noted here that Doodle and S9 are Phablets whereas the Xolo Play is a proper phone.

Budget phone

The Doodle has a 5.7” IPS LCD capacitive screen with 1280×720 pixel resolution at 258 ppi. The S9 has a 5.5” IPS LCD capacitive screen with 1280×720 pixel resolution at 267 ppi. The Xolo Play has a 4.7” IPS LCD capacitive screen with 1280×720 pixel resolution at 312 ppi. The Xolo Play having a smaller display has a greater pixel density and hence has a higher screen clarity and sharpness among the three.

The Doodle is powered by a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 and PowerVR SGX544 GPU which is the same specs as that of its previous flagship, the Canvas 4. The S9 is powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor and the Xolo Play is powered by a 1.5 GHz Quad core processor with the Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset having a 5th battery saver core and is coupled with ULP GeForce 12 core 500 MHz GPU for all the graphics purposes like gaming. So comparing the hardware, the Xolo Play has the best hardware and the biggest powerhouse among the three.

Storage and Main memory:
All three devices come with 1 GB of RAM which is pretty enough for gaming and multitasking purposes. And for the price at which these phones are available in the market, these specs are actually pretty good. The Doodle and S9 come with 16 GB of on-board memory. Thought the Doodle does not have an expandable memory option, the S9 has a memory card slot upto 32 GB. The Xolo Play on the other hand comes with only 4 GB of on-board storage of which user available memory is lesser than that, but it also comes with a 32 GB expandable card slot, so that is a bit of a relief.

As for the camera, the Xolo Play has the smallest camera at 8MP autofocus capable to shoot 1080p Full HD videos at 30 fps. Its secondary camera is a 2MP capable of good quality images and videos for video calls. The Doodle is the one with the second best camera with a 12MP sensor. It has autofocus as well as HDR. It is also capable of Full HD 1080p videos at 30 fps. The front camera is a 5MP camera capable of high resolution videos for video calling. It also has an amazing camera feature that allows you to capture vertical panorama which is a first. The S9 though has a 13MP camera capable of some really great snaps. The colour reproduction is pretty good and for the price points maybe even the best camera in the market. It is also capable of Full HD 1080p video recording at 30 fps. The video capturing capacity all three phones is equal, but the image quality of the phones can be easily seen from the samples.

Operating system and Features:
Coming to the main thing that runs the entire show. All the three devices run Android 4.1 JellyBean upgradeable to the latest versions as and when the company pushes them for the device. There are no overlays and hence they run stock Android so you will get the exact feel of what the original Android is on these phones. As for the features, all the phones have ranging features among them. The Xolo Play for starters is a phone specifically made for gaming purposes, hence the big GPU. So other than that there is not much in the phone but the gaming features and the great screen.

The Doodle on the other hand is pretty loaded with features which are equivalent to the ones present in the Samsung Galaxy S4. There are the Smart Gestures, Look away to Pause, Pinning facility where you can pin any webpage or video to the homepage and while that continues you can multitask by running other applications in the other half of the screen. Then there is the first ever Blow to Unlock feature where you can blow over the screen to unlock it. It even has a stylus support for greater applications and usability.

The S9 also has some great features like its wonderful screen which can display more colours than its earlier counterparts. It is not as awesomely loaded like the Doodle but it an Android phone, so you can tittle-tattle with your phone as much as you like for whatever you need.

Battery power:
As for the battery which has become like one of the great deciding factor while buying any phone, all three of them are pretty packing in those terms. The Doodle and the S9 both are packing a 2600 mAh battery which is good enough to last 10 hours on 3G networks. The Xolo Play though has a 2000 mAh battery. Considering the small screen it is pretty enough for it and lasts about 11 hours on 3G networks.
We compared the 3 Indian flagships, the Micromax Canvas Doodle, Karbonn Titanium S9 and the Xolo Play across various parameters. All the three phones are pretty much in the balance but they all have their ups and down. So accordingly the decision rests up to you as to which or what type of a phone do you need depending on your usage types. If you are looking for a large screen phone with great features then the Doodle is the one for you. If you are looking for a phone with a big screen, great camera and the works for a cheap cost, then S9 is your bet. But do consider that Karbonn has a lot of issues with after sales services. So it mind end up as a huge risk though. The Xolo Play is the one for you if you want a moderate large screen, high gaming usage and a good build and battery life. So all the three phones are made with certain specific purposes, but if there is to choose a winner among the three, it will be the Micromax A240 Canvas Doodle 2 with its amazing screen, battery, camera and myriad of features that it comes packing with.
