Why the new Android 4.4 update emphasizes more on Developer option instead of UI and speed.

Go to any corner of the world and you will see one thing in common there, smartphones and a majority of them running Android. Though android is not the only smartphone OS in the market, but it is truly the market leader. This comes to the fore from all the surveys and market figures of sales. Along with android, there is also iOS, Blackberry, Windows, Tizen, Ubuntu, Sailfish, Asha, and some more which might be under production yet. But still among all that Android comes on top of all of them, and it is actually a good topic to think upon as to why.

Today Android is in its 11th edition “KitKat”. As per the naming convention from Android, they have started out from ‘A’ and have slowly moved on to ‘K’ till now. But the real development in it being a smartphone OS began mainly from ‘Eclair’. This was the one Android version when it underwent a huge change and brought a revolution in the mobile computing arena with support for better touchscreen and a good amount of hardware as well as bringing in better graphical changes as compared to the previous android versions.

Android 4.4 Kit Kat

As a matter of fact, Android is free of cost, Open source OS available to any developer freely to work on it and create his/her own version of Android that he/she loves. But again the main problem comes with support for hardware and this is where Google kicked in. Google bought Android and started rigorously developing it and bringing out a new version of android every year. Slowly, with the in house developers and also the external developers at various independent locations who formed communities. Android started slowly developing like nothing ever seen before with some unique features like amazing graphics, support for hardwares and most importantly the amazing number of apps which brought out the never seen before capabilities to a smartphone.

Now gradually android has reached 4.4 KitKat which is a new revolution in the mobile computing arena. But those who have given 4.4 a try might have noticed that there are actually very less UI and speed changes in there but a lot more developer options. This came as a bit of a surprise to many since people were actually expecting KitKat to be the next big thing. But it do happened that it turned out to be just an upgrade to JellyBean and nothing much different to what people were expecting. Moreover, it is actually more or less similar to the stock JellyBean version with some very basic UI tweaks.

What KitKat has brought is more features into the Android OS like a new Hangouts message centre, App switcher, new call, email apps, Google Now always on and many-many more of such features. But the basic reason why Android seems to not have gotten many UI changes is because of what we think is the futuristic plan of Google for Android. Today, what android features, all other top players in the market have them like iOS, Windows, etc. so to counter all that and give the consumers some more, something extra, a new UI is not going to cut it and Google knows that.

And hence the developer options; Google plans to bring more technical expertise to make Android more futuristic than it is today to counter the competitions from iOS and Windows. These two are the current biggest threat to Android. So giving the developers a crack at it, Google knows that Android can do much more if given the right path and for that reason they have taken this step to take Android to the developers. And now when we talk about making android futuristic, we do not mean that we want our cell phones to wash our clothes, iron them, cook food and do the dishes. If it does that, it would be just so much cool, but sadly, even technology has limitations.

But Google seems to be planning to bring some great technical advancements to Android in the future editions. They have already started with new amazing features and the future seems to be showing us better stuff like support for faster radio speeds, Wifi bandwidths, Bluetooth, better apps, faster data transmissions, more features out of the box. Better email and IM connectivity, and most of all, bringing better productivity features to Android. Android does have office suites in it, but still both iOS and Android have yet fallen behind Windows in terms of productivity because the basic mindset behind the development of Android was to make it ‘FUN’ but slowly the world needs productivity as well to their smart devices and Google seems to be hard at work with providing this. KitKat does come with an office suite out of the box, but still working on mobiles and tablets is not the same as compared to on laptops and windows devices.

Google needs to understand this and work the complete environment so that the consumers feels more at home with the office environment on mobile and tablets running Android as he/she does on Windows tablets or else Windows Laptops. Another feature is the software compatibility that Windows enjoys like Photoshop and other productivity softwares so that any individual will feel like depending completely on android and not having to switch between different ecosystems because the apps and softwares non-compatibility.

So now that we have quite some idea what to expect from Android as well as the curiosity to know what Google has in plan for Android in the future, guess that perfectly explains us why the high amount of developer options and not and that many UI changes. Since Android has been kept in the 4. x version yet since the Ginger Bread version, guess we will have to wait for the next version of 5. x from Android to see some new and striking UI changes in the entire ecosystem. Do comment below what you are expecting from the next version of Android and also what you feel could be the reason for more developer options and less UI changes.

The most important aspect that has to be kept in mind before going for the installation process is to take the backup of your data. 1. The first step to install is to download the Cyanogenmod 11 Custom ROM and also the fastboot files which are the requirements for the kernel image.
  2. The downloaded ROM package should then be extracted.
  3. The fastboot files download will also generate a zip file consisting of 4 files.
  4. The next step is very crucial and should be done with much care. The extracted ROM package will have a file named boot.img; this is a kernel file for your device. Once you have found out the boot.img it should be copied and pasted into the fastboot files along with the already existing 4 files. So, upon the completion of this step, the total number of files in the fastboot files will be 5.
  5. The next step is the initiation of the real process as you have to take the device under fastboot mode. The fastboot mode on your HTC One can be navigated by simply pressing the volume down button along with the power button. This is the first process you have to do in your HTC One and the previous process of downloading the files will be processed on your PC.
  6. The above process will lead you to the boot loader mode where the fastboot mode can be chosen by using the power button.
  7. Once you have reached the fastboot mode, you can always connect your HTC device with your PC for the next procedure. After the connection has been set up all you have to do is to flash the kernel file from command prompt. This can be done by the command “fastboot flash boot boot.img”. But ensure that the command prompt directory is pointing towards the fastboot folder.
  8. Upon the completion of flashing the kernel, system should be restarted and then phone should be disconnected from the system. This process is to simply copy the image for Cyanogenmod 11 on your HTC One device for the installation process.
  9. The cache and the data from the phone memory should always be wiped out before the final stage of the installation.
  10. Ensure you are in recovery mode just to avoid unnecessary troubles and select the ROM files which have been copied from the system to your HTC One by power button. This will start the process of installation and will ask for rebooting of your device after the completion.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Anyhow the adaptation of Kitkat on the Samsung Galaxy S4 doesn’t have the Google Experience Launcher accessible on the Nexus 5, which was divulged at the end of October. The Google Experience Launcher, implied as a Nexus 5 elite, gives you a chance to swipe left for Google Now, trigger Google Search through an “Ok Google” hot watchword and has other alternatives for modifying the look of your working system

The Google Play releases Samsung Galaxy S4 contrast from the ones sold via bearers in that they are offered unsubsidized without an agreement and work on “immaculate” Android instead of the organization’s altered. One of the explanations behind getting these Google Play release units was the guarantee of getting Android redesigns on time, on top of the Nexus mechanisms thus far they have been pretty near keeping that guarantee. Indeed, this time around these telephones have gotten the redesign even after a percentage of the Nexus clients, who are as of now sitting tight for their Kitkat upgrade.

The Google Play version phones, plus the Nexus phones and the Moto X are currently the handful of units to have the exact most recent form of Android instated. Provided that you haven’t appropriated the notice yet, check the Settings application to check whether it is accessible.
