Apple iPad Mini 2 vs. Asus Google Nexus 7 2 2013 Vs. LG G Pad 8.3

The battle of the flagship tablets is back with the Android powerhouses taking against the latest Apple produce. Which one is the best? Letas find out. We are comparing here the Apple iPad Mini, the Asus Google Nexus 7 2 2013 and the LG G Pad. All the three tablets are top of the line flagship models fitted into smaller versions or are rather the a?minia? versions of the original tablets. So it is but fair to compare them in that way rather than comparing them with their big brothers.

Best tablets 2013

The iPad Mini 2 has a 7.9a? IPS LCD Retina Display with resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels at 324 ppi. That is a huge pixel density for a tablet especially for a mini version. It is an amazing screen with anti-glare screen on it for exceptional performance. The Asus Google Nexus 7 2 has a 7a? IPS LCD display with Full HD display of 1920×1200 pixels at 323 ppi. Considering the non-retina display here and also the smaller screen, the pixel of the tablet is still same as that of the iPad Mini. As for the LG G Pad, it has an 8.3a? display with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels at 273 ppi. It has a bigger screen, hence the pixel density is a bit less compared to the Nexus 7 2.

The iPad Mini 2 is powered by an Apple A7 chipset with a Dual core 1.3 GHz CPU coupled with a PowerVR G6430 GPU which is a Quad core. Considering that Apple devices never needed so much of heavy specifications for running smoothly, so for that purpose, this is an apt engine running under the hood. The Nexus 7 2 has a Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad core clocked at 1.5 GHz coupled with Adreno 320 GPU. Considering that Snapdragon 800 processors are out, this seems like a very small unit now, but for the price range, it seems a very good prospect. The LG G Pad though has Qualcomm APQ8064 Pro Snapdragon 600 Quad Core clocked at 1.7 GHz which is better than the one in Nexus 7 2. It is also coupled with an Adreno 320 GPU. But considering the faster chipset of the G Pad, the LG G Pad has the most horsepower among the 3.

Apple iPad Mini 2

Main memory and Storage:

The iPad Mini 2 has 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and comes in 16/32/64/128 GB variants. Sadly as usual, there is no expandable memory option as on all the Apple devices. The Nexus 7 2 comes with 2 GB RAM and 16/32 GB memory options. Sadly even this does not come with expandable memory option making it lag even behind the iPad Mini. The LG G Pad on the other hand has 2 GB RAM and only 16 GB of internal storage. But what makes it a winner among all the others is the expandable memory option on this device using micro SD cards upto 64 GB. Now that is a capacity device.

Battery backup:

Since the tablets are a bit small in size hence the batteries fitted in them are also not that big. And also they do not quite need the big battery to power them since the smaller one is capable of handling the device pretty well for long durations. The battery on the iPad Mini 2 is a 23.8 Wh battery which provides for upto 10 hours of multimedia entertainment and surfing using both cellular as well as Wi-Fi networks. The LG G Pad has a 4600 mAh battery which is provides for upto 11 hours of web surfing. To be noted that the G Pad is a Wi-Fi only tablet and does not support a SIM card. Hence it does not have any cellular version. The Nexus 7 2 has a 3950 mAh battery which is capable of upto 10 hours of talk time on 3G networks as well as 9 hours of web surfing on Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

Nexus 7 2013

The iPad Mini comes with iOS 7 out of the box and that is very smooth and zippy OS. It comes pre-installed with many amazing Apple apps like iTunes, Siri, etc. a disappointment that this tablet does not feature the fingerprint scanner, but then I guess it is only fair to say that tablets with fingerprint scanning technology seem just too much. Also it comes equipped with Apple Maps which is Appleas own mapping service, though you are also able to use Google Maps which is a much better mapping service from Google. The Nexus 7 2 and the LG G Pad comes installed with Android 4.3 JellyBean out of the box. The LG G Pad in some areas comes installed with 4.2.2 JellyBean version, but that is upgradable to 4.3 OTA. It will be interesting to see if they are capable for Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade in the future. Also since they are Android devices, features I guess is never as issue because if there is anything you need in a phone, you can just as easily download it from the Google Play App Store and enjoy.

Comparing the connectivity of the phones is not that big a deal, but it is important in this case because among the three, the LG G Pad does not have a cellular version and hence does not have SIM card support. Hence it has only a Wi-Fi version. On the other hand the Nexus 7 2 supports LTE bands, but not all of them. But considering that 3G is more widely used than 4G today, so it is quite fine by the global standards. Guess by the time 4G becomes as popular as 3G is today, we will be having better Nexus tablets for more 4G support. The iPad Mini though on the other hand is future ready supporting all the LTE bands. This makes it a true winner in case of connectivity.

Camera and photos:

All the 3 tablets have a 5 MP rear camera which is capable of Full HD videos of 1080p at 30 fps. The only difference is the iPad Mini 2 has the Appleas iSight camera which has the bigger pixel technology which means that in the same 5 MP sensor, it can capture greater details and more light and vivid colours making it the winner.

We compared three great future a?minia? tablets namely the Apple iPad Mini 2, Asus Google Nexus 7 2 2013 and LG G Pad. We compared them to each other over various aspects and parameters and we have come to a conclusion that the iPad Mini 2 is a clear winner here. The only drawback for the iPad Mini 2 is the lack of the heavy hardware under the hood and the non-presence of expandable memory yet again, but still it is the best tablet out there and if you are looking for a great tablet of a smaller size the bigger iPad or the huge tablets, then the iPad Mini 2 is the answer you are looking for.
