Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo to run on Tizen OS unveiled by Samsung


Samsung already has some wearable devices with its Gear smartwatch lineup and now they are trying to bring some changes in its lineup with their new devices Tizen-based Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. If we compare Tizen-based Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo with earlier devices then it is thinner and lighter and comes with special wearable version of Samsung’s Tizen OS. Samsung has removed ‘Galaxy’ word from its name because it will no longer be an Android device. Let’s have a look at features of Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

Samsung Gear 2

Samsung Gear 2 will come with 1.63 inch display screen that gives resolution of 320 x 320. They have used 1 GHz processor which is much stronger as compared to dual-core 800 MHz. There are many new features included like heart rate monitor. Samsung Gear 2 also has an infrared port and that will make Gear 2 to work as remote control for your home appliances. There are also some drawbacks of Gear 2. It will have limited RAM and internal memory storage. Other than this, battery is also downgraded from 315 mAh to 300 mAh. As Samsung Gear 2 has optimized Tizen operating system, it is expected that battery consumption will be less as compared to Android OS devices.

Samsung Gear 2 also has a Neo version. Gear 2 Neo is not having 2 MP HD camera but it is very light in weight. Gear 2 Neo is just 55g in weight. As Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are wearable devices, so it must be secured from any kind of damage. Both devices comes with IP67 dust and water resistance certification. Samsung has not given exact release date and price for both devices but it is expected that these gadgets will be available in April.
